DR.NICOLE J. JONES COMPTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES
For Dr. Nicole J. Jones, public service is more than a career. It is a commitment rooted in family,
community, and a belief that institutions can change lives.
That commitment brought Jones back to the Compton Community College District Board of
Trustees, where she was appointed on March 9, 2026, to represent Trustee Area 2, including
Willowbrook, Enterprise, Compton, and West Rancho Dominguez. The return is personal.
Compton and the surrounding communities are not simply an area Jones serves—they are home.
A long-time Willowbrook resident, Jones has family ties to the area dating back to the 1950s.
She lives just two doors from her father’s childhood home, a daily reminder of the people and places that shaped her and of the responsibility she feels to create opportunities for the next generation.
“It is with deep commitment to community service that I am running for the Compton
Community College District Trustee Area 2,” Jones says. “I am confident that I will bring both
proven leadership and a deep commitment to student success and community improvement.”
A Familiar Leader at a Pivotal Moment
Jones previously served as a Compton Community College District Trustee and Board President during one of the most consequential periods in the college’s history. During her tenure, the institution restored local governance and regained accreditation, helping establish a stronger foundation for Compton College’s future.
She now returns with a broader perspective on higher education governance, accreditation, fiscal accountability, workforce development, and community partnerships.
Her six years as a public commissioner on the WASC Senior College and University
Commission provided firsthand experience with institutional accountability and accreditation. As
an adjunct professor at National University and previously at the University of La Verne, she has
also experienced higher education from the classroom perspective.
Putting Students at the Center
Jones has identified her priorities as promoting student success and completion, expanding career and technical education and workforce pathways, making higher education more accessible and affordable, increasing enrollment through dual-enrollment and Promise programs, ensuring strong fiscal accountability and transparent governance, and strengthening partnerships with K–12 schools, universities, labor, employers, nonprofit organizations, and the broader community.
Above all, Jones wants to ensure that every student who enters Compton College has a realistic pathway to complete a degree or certificate, transfer to a four-year university, or enter a family-sustaining career.
She sees these priorities as interconnected. Access means little if students lack the support to persist and graduate. Degrees and credentials are more valuable when they lead to meaningful careers. And colleges are stronger when they work closely with families, employers, schools, and community organizations.
A Career Built on Connecting People and Possibilities
For more than two decades, Jones has worked across government, higher education,
philanthropy, nonprofits, and the financial sector. Her career has focused on connecting people, institutions, and resources to create measurable community impact.
Today, she serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Development & Innovation Director at AmPac Business Capital, where she leads philanthropic strategy, partnerships, and communications to support small businesses through financing, coaching, and community-building initiatives.
Her previous roles include Assistant Deputy State Controller in the California State Controller’s
Office; Director of External Affairs at Crystal Stairs; Associate Director of Corporate and
Foundation Relations at Loyola Marymount University; Program Director at The California
Wellness Foundation; Program Officer at the California Community Foundation; and Special
Assistant at the Indianapolis Foundation. Across those roles, a common thread has remained: building relationships that make systems work better for the people they are intended to serve.
Her academic path reflects the same commitment. Jones earned an undergraduate degree in urban education from the University of California, Berkeley; a master’s degree in public administration from Baruch College, City University of New York; and a Doctor of Public Administration from the University of La Verne.
Compton College’s Next Chapter.
Jones’s relationship with Compton College began well before her 2026 appointment. In November 2016, she was unanimously appointed to the Compton Community College District Board and became Board President the following year. Her tenure coincided with major institutional milestones, including the return of local governance control and the restoration of full accreditation.
