Reporting & Impact
- How exactly will my donation be used?
Your support is invested directly into the newsroom. This includes:- Hiring: Employing local reporters and photographers like Enrique and Theodor.
- Reporting: Funding deep-dives into senior health, housing, and government accountability.
- Technology & Infrastructure: Maintaining our website, digital security, and the platforms used to deliver the City Pride magazine.
- Training: Providing mentorship and professional development for our cohort of interns (Ladania, J-Corey, Angelique, and Andrews).
- Community Engagement: Funding our tabling at the Dollarhide Community Center and our weekly outreach sessions.
- Does a large donation influence what you report?
No. We maintain a strict “firewall” between our revenue and our newsroom. While donors can support coverage of broad topics (like health or education), they have zero say in the specific stories we pursue, the people we interview, or the conclusions our reporters reach.
Transparency
- Is my donation tax-deductible?
Not yet. Currently, Hub City Reporter is an affiliate of City Pride Magazine. We are in the process of transitioning to an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. At this moment, we are sustained by a mix of local advertisements, fellowships (like the California Local News Fellowship), and grants. We will update the community the moment our nonprofit status is finalized. - How do I know where the money goes?
We believe in radical transparency. All donations go directly to Hub City Reporter operations. We provide a monthly accountability report that breaks down our expenditures. Additionally, we are committed to publishing a full list of our donors annually, or upon request, to maintain public trust. - Who else supports this newsroom?
Our work is bolstered by a growing coalition including partner newsrooms, local organizations, and prestigious fellowships like the USC Health Equity Fellowship. We also partner with local sponsors, such as the Compton Grocery Outlet, who align with our mission to serve the city.

Not yet. Currently, Hub City Reporter is an affiliate of City Pride Magazine and is not yet a 501(c)(3). Most of our current support comes from advertisements, fellowships, and grants. However, we have future plans to register Hub City Reporter as a standalone 501(c)(3). Your contribution helps us build the foundation for that transition. - Who else supports this newsroom?
Our work is made possible by partner newsrooms, organizations, fellowships (like the California Local News Fellowship and USC Health Equity Fellowship), and local advertisers who believe in Compton. - How do you ensure accountability?
All donations go directly to Hub City Reporter operations. We provide accountability on a monthly basis regarding how much was received and how it was spent. A list of donors is published annually and can be provided freely upon request. - Does a donation influence your reporting?
No. We maintain a strict firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute an endorsement of donors or their products. We retain full authority over our editorial content.
Managing Your Giving
- Can I pause or cancel my recurring donation?
Yes. You are in full control. You can manage your contributions at any time by logging into your personal donation portal on our website. Alternatively, you can contact us directly at press.dot.hubcityreporter@gmail.com, and we will handle the request for you immediately.
Do you accept anonymous donations?
We generally avoid anonymous donations to ensure the highest level of transparency. For any general support donation that is anonymous, we apply strict internal safeguards to ensure that the source of the funds has no influence over our editorial decisions.
