CUSD Middle and Elementary Schools Showcase Exceptional Campuses

This week, Compton Unified’s amazing 21 Elementary Schools and 5 Middle Schools welcomed students and their families to Back-to-School Nights. Parents got to tour our incredible campuses and look inside the colorful classrooms!

Our inspiring principals, teachers, and staff met with parents and families, and shared what scholars will experience this year in the school and classroom.

Back to School Nights are crucial events in the academic calendar, serving as a bridge between schools, parents, and teachers. For our Compton Unified schools, these nights provide an opportunity to establish a sense of community and shared purpose. Administrators outlined the school’s goals, values, and expectations for the academic year to parents and families. Schools also showcased their resources, programs, and extracurricular activities, fostering an environment where students feel supported and parents feel confident in the excellent educational experience their children are receiving.

For our CUSD parents, Back to School Night is an invaluable opportunity to connect with their child’s teachers and gain insights into the curriculum and classroom expectations. They had the opportunity to ask questions, understand grading policies, and learn about any upcoming projects or assessments. This helped parents to better support their children’s learning at home by aligning their expectations with those of the school.

Additionally, meeting the teachers face-to-face helped build a trusting relationship, making it easier to communicate throughout the year about any concerns or progress.

Our CUSD teachers also benefited from our Back to School Nights, as they set the tone for their classroom and established early connections with parents. This event allowed teachers to share their teaching philosophy, classroom management strategies, and how they plan to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth.

By engaging with parents early in the school year, teachers can create a partnership that fosters open communication, which is essential for addressing any challenges that may arise. Moreover, when parents and teachers are on the same page, it enhances the overall educational experience for students, promoting a supportive and collaborative environment.
