COMPTON ELECTION 2024

By Cynthia Macon

THE REFORM CANDIDATE SLATE

Three leadership offices are currently open for reform in the November 2024 election. We need to remove and replace the favored city employees engineered into those seats with fellow competent residents and send a message that real democracy is never stolen.

1ST DISTRICT

Vote for businessman JASPER JACKSON in the 1st District. He vows to represent the people, not the administration and brings 20-plus years of experience running an actual business to improve this city. Vote to put actual resident representation back into the 1st District.

4TH DISTRICT

Vote for corporate businessman JOEL ESTRADA in the 4th District. He brings years of experience running a half-billion-dollar business and transforming and opening new ventures. He is an Ivy League and law school graduate from the City of Compton. Credible Latino representation should not be locked out of leadership by city employees.

CITY CLERK

Vote for SATRA ZURITA for Compton City Clerk. She is the Vice President of the award-winning Compton Unified School District. She has been crucial in resurrecting and transforming the district from state receivership to an education-leading district with several corporate partnerships, new district programs, and constructing a new Compton High School. She plans to transform and modernize your antiquated City Clerk office with technology. Contrary to city rumor, she has never been indicted on any charges and has won all necessary lawsuits for women’s rights.

BALLOT MEASURES

One reform and bond measure will also be on your ballot this November 2024.

VOTE YES ON MEASURE CA

This measure was drafted to correct the incompetence and high costs now proven to be occurring in your City Attorney’s office. This office costs you, the taxpayer, 14 million dollars annually, while only three million dollars right next door in Carson. This measure will make it mandatory to have ten years of municipal experience to assure, in the future, that only qualified municipal legal minds lead this city. The present qualification of only three years of general experience has proven ineffective. Measure CA will allow the City Attorney to be appointed and not elected. This will open the door to using an outside firm like the City of Carson utilizes and how the majority of cities with populations under 100,000 traditionally operate. Save money, increase qualifications, and end corruption and abuse of power. VOTE YES ON MEASURE CA!

VOTE NO ON MEASURE CC

This proposal will pass a 200 million dollar bond for the Compton Community College District. The actual cost of this bond will be 436 million dollars. The bond will be paid by adding the cost to your property taxes. The resulting higher cost will raise the price of home ownership, rents, and business leases. Now is not a good time for another bond, given the high cost of living and families currently struggling to stay financially afloat. Everyone is for education, but the people are drowning in taxes. The District needs your vote to raise property taxes even higher. But increasingly, most Compton residents cannot afford to buy a home or even rent in Compton. The college already enjoys community support because a 100 million-dollar bond was passed in 2014. A 35 million dollar bond sale occurred in February 2024, and the college already had $151 million in debt. Protect your neighbors struggling to keep their homes. VOTE NO ON MEASURE CC.

IN CONCLUSION

Transformative change cannot occur by holding on to status quo city employee leadership that talks a good game but is okay with how things are inside city hall. If you are a part of the problem, you can’t see the problem. That’s why Compton has been left entirely behind. Residents are supposed to be sitting in those leadership seats, not extensions of internal city hall failure.

So VOTE FOR COMPLETE REFORM this November 2024. Stop holding on to failed leadership and proven failed approaches. New ideas, business management skills, and new eyes, not pictures and reports on which events were attended, are what the City of Compton needs to revitalize and make this city prosper and progress.

SWEEP HOUSE!

PASS THE WORD AND…WAKE UP, COMPTON!
