Barbara Calhoun remains an outstanding Member of the Compton College Board of Trustees. Her remarkable leadership has paid off for Compton College students

Compton College Receives Reaffirmed Accreditation Status. The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges has reaffirmed Compton College*s accreditation for seven years.

Addressing Basic Needs To remove barriers to education, Compton College has expanded or added new resources in the last five years to ensure students* basic needs are met. Free student resources include:

Parking permits * Metro GoPass for transportation

Laptop computer, Wi-Fi, and headphone loans, access to printing, Blue books and Scantrons

One meal per day at the on-campus Everytable Caf*

$20/week in vouchers for the on-campus farmers* market

Access to on-campus food pantry and locker rooms for showers

Barbara Jean Calhoun resides in Compton and retired after more than 34 years of service to the City of Los Angeles, where she worked as a clerk typist supervisor and traffic officer. Calhoun was elected and served two consecutive terms, in 2003 and 2007, as a city council member for the City of Compton (District 1). She also served one term on the Board of Trustees for the Compton Unified School District from 2001 to 2003. She attended Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, where she studied labor law. She has been a proctor for the State Bar of California’s Committee of Bar Examiners since 2014.

As a member of the Board of Trustees, the governing body of Compton Community College District, Barbara Calhoun is committed to fulfilling her responsibilities of advocating for and protecting the students and district and assisting in establishing a climate in which high standards are maintained, and institutional goals are accomplished.
